Yep, people are still mad over that Redskin name. So now a Councilmember has suggested that they change their name to the Redtails. Going right to DC Council.

Don't they have more important things to worry about? I am a minority, White, Black and some Native American (Cherokee) and am not offended by the name Redskins.

The only reason I'm against the change is because the new name is stupid. Redskins is a stupid name too, though.

In fairness, Redskin is slightly more offensive than Indian or Brave.

They should change their name to the "Hogs." It's long been a pseudo-mascot for the team, and the porcine moniker can easily be seen as a play on DC politics/politicians.

I have my reservations about changing the name in the first place; those with religious or sentimental bonds to actual hogs will have to take that up with the ownership.

As a DC resident (born & raised) I've never been comfortable with the name Redskins. It's not simply a racist reference to the color of Native Americans' skin. Redskin is also a term for when they skinned them, their bodies were left looking like a red skin i.e. the blood/muscle left underneath.
